Emergency and Crisis Management Exemplary Community Award

The Barbour County Commission is pleased to announce Sentinel Complex/Leer South as the first recipient of the Emergency and Crisis Management Exemplary Community Award. Through this award, the Barbour County Commission is recognizing the work being done in Barbour County to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters. This recognition is for exceptional service and achievement in emergency crisis preparedness.

The development of this program was inspired by Arch Coal’s progressive planning, continued emergency preparedness exercises and community collaboration to make the Little Hackers Creek Slurry Impoundment emergency plan flawless and effective. They were awarded at the October 7th County Commission Meeting.

Courthouse ADA Ramp Renovations

Construction will soon begin with renovations to the handicap ramp at the main entrance of the Courthouse. During winter months, the current ramp is a hazard to the public due to falling snow and ice from the Courthouse roof. The sidewalk will be moved outward from the building and a gradual ramp leading to the main entrance will be constructed, eliminating the existing steps. A canopy roof will be installed above the entrance. This project is being completed to provide citizens of Barbour County a safe and accessible entrance into the courthouse.
